Why Don't We Have More Group Buys?

Agree. I also noticed that there are many threads that have material that is completely for amateurs while we find it difficult to close some GBs that have material that would change our lives. There should also be a check on the level of the threads. I do not think that thousands of posts with presets or with actions are better than seminars of award-winning photographers. I thing a seminar of a top photographer or videographer changes the way you work for the better. The presets is only a quick and lazy solution.

i used to participate in GB..sometimes i bough upto 3 slots ......since i wasnt shooting for a while..i took a break..when i was willing to participate..the one i am interested is kinda in expensive range..50 or 100 usd.. so may be in future

 

Very true...Learning how to do something is way better than a quick fix.

 

As you stated I've seen other members go in more than once. Personally I've done a couple of Gb's just to help out even though I have no interest in that GB. We have so many here that it would be great if others stepped forward sometime to help out instead of waiting for someone to fulfil a request.

There is a lot of work involved for our admin just to get a Group buy completed.

Absolutely and completely agree with this statement as an option to the present situation and limitations of options for buying a monthly subscription. However, new members will obviously be reticent to the initial process because it's just that - new and unfamiliar. If this was succinctly outlined as a viable option (a substitute to the usual partnering-host [or whatever it's called]) - I'm certain many new members would be willing to do this. A well-written "Instruction" page would be of benefit for all interested parties.

As a relatively new member here and participant in several GBs - I've consistently seen the same questions again and again regarding several steps along the process (i.e. How does this work? How do I pay? When is the expected time frame on turnaround from payment to anticipated availability? How many TPs? What's a TP? etc. etc.).

By providing an outline of what you present and emphasizing this as an [excellent] option - this additionally provides opportunity for those participants to be invested in the process and offer a sense of belonging. I feel this is more substantive relative to someone who purchases a 1 month sub and DLs a glut of data and leeches it all over a myriad of other sites for pennies (although I'm sure that would happen nonetheless; albeit, a much lower #).

I haven't been here long and initially didn't join GB's as I didn't know what they were or how they worked.
So for a new member it would be hard to go in blindly. Once I knew what was happening with time on the site, the benefit of a GB is huge.

If more people join a group buy than was originally requested, does the price per seat drop or does the excess collected amount get refunded? Or does the overage go to the house as an admin fee?

What does "same category" mean? Is it general like Photo vs Video? Or is it a little more specific like Portraits vs Landscapes?

 

It is usually from the general category. It is also not been uncommon for the group buy participants to request and vote on items but it is all at the discretion of the group buy organizer and what they prefer. Personally, I don't mind as the organizer has to handle all of the details, organize buyers, keep track of payments, download and host the product, and manage downloads. I look at it this way, whatever they choose, I'm cool with because I get the product at a greatly reduced price without having to deal with the headaches.

No one should quibble over a few numbers if they understand the involved process; any excess should be anticipated to go toward future shares of some consistent frequency . . . and that is what's occurring in a general sense. It's the best site for what it does with so many members and such . . .
