You should only need these legacy versions if the latest doesn't run on your OS - so in that case - yes, I'd get rid of the "newer" version and "down"-date . . . If you're referring to the top-most post in this thread - Macs are funny in the sense that one can run multiple versions of the same software without issue (very generally speaking); but I'd get rid of older versions before updating to a new one (my personal opinion).
